Chapter 2.28 is the 33rd chapter of Volume 2.

Synopsis[]

Ryoka makes her run south, plagued by Frost Faeries who harrass her on every step: Undated: Wasp attack; freezed Wyvern; undoing shoelaces. Constantly: Insults, Snowball attacks, Ice shard attacks, smelly things attacks, poking twig treatments, freezing wind attacks, blinding flurry attacks, hail and pelting rain attacks...

  • 1st day: cold water attack while sleeping
  • 2nd day: burning coal attack while sleeping
  • 4th day: Ryoka got past the Bloodfields
  • 6th day: Camping on a huge lake; Faeries make ice slippery
  • some day afterwards in the hills: massive snow roll attacks, slippery slope traps, bug attack
  • another day: Fae steal clothing and stuff, hang it in a high tree. Ryoka gives up, not reacting anymore. Faeries leave her alone for some days.
  • three days later: Return of Faeries, more harrassment for some time, then avalanche.

Mrsha of the Stone Spears Tribe smells Ryoka and alerts the adults who rescue Ryoka from the snow mound, and bring her to their camp. There, she recovers for a day, but the next day, the Faeries return.

They announce that they got a deal with Ryoka's friend Erin, who had prepared a banquet for them over nearly two weeks ago. Ryoka is grateful to Erin, and starts a conversation with one of the Faeries who endulges her. The topic comes to Earth, and Ryoka learns that the Faeries have emigrated from there forever, and they are annoyed that they have not stuck in the collective human memory.

Ryoka teases them that they haven't heard the newest stories from Earth, and then regales them for an entire day with the stories of Superman, Batman, poems, Charles Dickens and J.R.R. Tolkien. This endears the Faeries enough that one of them even offers to accompany Ryoka on her run.

After having stayed with the tribe for three days, Ryoka bids farewell to Urksh, the Gnoll Chieftain, and moves on towards Az'kerash.
