Chapter 3.18 T is the nineteenth chapter of Volume 3.

Synopsis

Toren roams the streets of Esthelm, observing the silly humans. He kills a (fight-capable) rapist but not his victim because he suspects she won't give him XP. Then, Toren turns to the darker places of the city where he hopes to get some monsters.

The Redfangs scout the city and observe how the many Human survivors are forming tribal structures in the mostly destroyed city. The outskirts and walls are the most populated areas, while the city center is the danger zone with Undead, monsters and lingering darkness. Outside the city walls, the vanguard of the Goblin Lord's army has made camp. The Goblins casually kill a murderer intent on harming a boy, then venture into the city center, having decided to cripple the Goblin Lord's army once it attacks with a goblin-style guerilla warfare.

Toren encounters a high-leveled adventurer who saves a family from a group of thugs. He is accompanied by a Bronze-rank team and they discuss what to do next. Toren tries to sneak-attack Ylawes Byres, but the attempt fails. Before Ylawes can destroy all of Toren's remains, a Human gang charges him, and Toren uses this as his chance to escape. Ylawes defends, but manages to rally the gang to his side, with the goal to establish order in the city and save everyone from the goblins.

The [Florist]-turned Eater-monster takes down a zombie who tried to murder a young man. She tries to not harm him, but he attacks her as well, so she flees and suddenly encounters Toren.

The Redfang Goblins observed that last scene. Headscratcher jumps to the conclusion that the skeleton might be the same that is connected to Erin, so this strange human girl might be the [Innkeeper] they searched. This is enough for the Redfang Warriors to join the fight and save the girl. She follows them, feeling that as she has become a monster, she should join other monsters.

Toren re-assembles himself, both furious about being defeated again, and wary about his low mana pool. So he seeks shelter in the sewers, where he gets attacked by a Ghoul. He is only saved by the presence of Zombies that he can take control of... becoming a leader for Undead.
