Chapter 5.36 is the thirty-eighth chapter of Volume 5, and chapter 17 of Book 8, Blood of Liscor.

tl;dr[]

Erin saves Pebblesnatch from the Redfang Five. Horns pair up with Halfseekers, Silver Swords with Griffon Hunt, then they switch. Calruz is alive.

Synopsis[]

Erin and staff are swamped serving all these freshly arrived adventurers. A quick conference between team leaders and Liscor’s leadership about how to proceed is held. Teams are informed of the peculiarities and laws. Magical food is advertised and sold.

Erin is dissatisfied with the current defences of the inn and ropes Numbtongue and Lyonette into brainstorming some. Klbkch offers to send some Soldiers and Workers, but to keep it secret.

The hobs are off two minds what to do about the captured cave goblin. They very reluctantly decide to kill her, just after similarly calling her Pebblesnatch to avoid Erin. Erin catches on to the shrieking goblin’s fate and faces off against them. By belaboured chess analogy she conveys that their choice is not binary, that life isn’t a zero-sum game, not for anyone, despite it being often treated as such.

The dungeon raid commences. Ksmvr really struggles with the water. Ceria asks everyone to keep an eye out for Calruz, despite the low odds. The Horns and Halfseekers pair up, but don’t gell well together. The former are too high strung for the latter’s laid-back approach. Griffon Hunt and the Silver Swords had similar problems, despite both being gold-ranked. They switch pairings, with Griffon Hunt’s methodical and pragmatic approach being much more in line with the Horns’. The raid finds far less monsters than expected. Ceria leaves a pictogram for the possibly alive Calruz to find.

Calruz is alive; he recognises the symbol, and thereby its author.
