Earthers or Earthworlders, are terms referring to otherworlders that come from Earth.

The Earthers that The Wandering Inn's storyline mainly focuses on are; Erin Solstice, Ryoka Griffin and Laken Godart. To a much lesser extent, sidestories followed Trey Atwood, Geneva Scala, Luan Khumalo, Daly Sullivan, Aaron Vanwell and Thomas.

Overview

People from all over Earth were being teleported to Innworld. The phenomenon is closely connected to a series of poorly understood child sacrifices undertaken by [High Mages] of the Blighted King, Othius the Fourth.[1][2][3]

Aside from the Blighted King, most figures of worldwide political or magical importance were still unaware of the existence of the Earthers until months after the first transportations occurred. The existence of the Earthers is still largely kept a secret. Although some Earthers were not withholding knowledge of their origins, Wistram likely stopped [Messages] and does not wish to spread news through their spyglass broadcasting network.

The first (?) such interdimensional (?) transportation happened in Autumn 2016 (Earthside), but the process has continued since.[4] Time seems to pass on a different rate in Innworld than on Earth, as more recent abductees claim they were translocated in 2018.[5]

Krshia knows that fellow Gnolls have seen strange humans in the southern Gnoll Plains before, but those were all "long dead" when they were found. Since she made that remark when Erin was not even a month in Liscor, this implies that either this was the latest news among the Gnolls, or that there were transportations even before Erin landed in Innworld.[6]

In most cases, the transported Earthers appeared singular or in small groups. The largest reported mass-transportations so far happened:

  • In Rhir, where the Blighted King finished a ritual to transport over 60 Earthers. This Group became later known as the Americans[1]
  • In Northern or Central Izril, where the Earthers in question was abducted from an airport in Chicago. They appeared in different locations: a village infested by Crelers, a city and a forest.[7]
  • In Southern Baleros where a large group of passengers was abducted from an airport in Melbourne. Some from this group formed the United Nations Company, which however consists mostly of Earthers that were found or rescued at a later date[8]
  • In Southern Chandrar, a very mixed group of 18 people appeared that was also abducted from one of the airports of Earth, apparently selected from the mass of people there for unknown criteria. The oldest of them was a Chinese woman of 26, the youngest a 15 year old girl separated from her parents.[9]

Like in the last example, all other reported cases of Earthers have also been young adults and adolescents, ranging from 16 years old (Trey and Teres) to 24 (Geneva) and 25 (Luan). As Erin noted with the group in Magnolia Reinhart's mansion, they all seemed "nearly her age, but younger than 16."[7] Since Erin is 20, this is open to interpretation.

Another important fact about them is that for some unknown reason, they stop thinking about their home, family and friends, unless they really try. It is as if there is a blank spot in their heads. They remember tech and politics and everything else, but they don’t feel nostalgic unless they try to remember or something reminds them.[10][11]

Highly speculative: Randomness and Frequency of the irregular transportation pattern make it plausible that so far, thousands if not tens of thousands of Earthers were transported to InnWorld. Most of those who appeared in the unknown world barely survived and the story covers mostly those who did; and who speak English, and who own an iPhone.

The Blighted King's [High Mages] and [Chronomancer] Nereshal were speculating that for the 1000 sacrificed unborn souls, exactly 1000 people might have been translocated to their world - but they also concluded that most must have died, either killed by monsters or local natives; or otherwise drowned or falling to death from being teleported into the air.[3] (The last point seems dubious, as fully random translocations would have led to most people being translocated into either the athmosphere or the planet's core - all known transportations were towards the ground level.)

Known Earthers

The largest known "Earther Colonies" that are regarding themselves as "safe havens", are currently the United Nations Company in Talenqual, Baleros; Wistram Academy on Wistram Island; the followers of the Queen of Pop in Terandria; The Wandering Inn in Liscor, Izril; and the Americans in the estates of Lord Operland in Rhir.
