The Plain’s Eye Tribe is one of the largest Gnoll tribes in Izril. Following the events of the Meeting of the Tribes, the tribe is near-dissolved.

Overview[]

One of the vastest tribes with many smaller or related clans.[1] It is specialized in shamanism. They also provide alchemical ingredients.[2] They trade the most out of any tribe with the Walled Cities and are very respected.[3]

The tribe is very old, as it existed when a large portion of Izril was ruled by Harpies, and the tribe used to trade with them.[4]

The remaining members of the tribe all have white fur, due to Ulcreziek's deal with Belavierr to save his remaining tribe members.[5] They are now despised by other Plains Gnolls, though not because of their fur color.[6]

Background[]

The Plain's Eye tribe was founded by Kishkeria, the [Archmage of the Eternal Grasslands]. While they originally resided in Chandrar, they eventually left and settled in Izril.[5]

After the fall of the Gnoll Kingdom, the Plain's Eye Tribe held Doombearers as responsible and swore to hunt them down. They appointed themselves as custodians of their luck-manipulating powers and created a Daemon of Luck from the souls of the Doombearers they killed, bound to their Chieftain to use their luck power as they saw fit. They then proceeded to spread falsehoods and propaganda about Doombearers, making it seem like they were responsible for the destruction of tribes rather than being the survivors of such tragedies, and started calling them Doombringers. They would push that narrative and erase proofs to the contrary, such as destroying a Gnoll library.

The leaders of Plain's Eye conspired with Fissival, burying several huge magicore crystals from their teleportation network under the location of the Meeting of the Tribes to suppress Gnollish capabilities in arcane magic. The tribe received yearly payments from Fissival for this.[7]

Chronology[]

Volume 7[]

At Geneva’s request, one of the Minds' Selphid representative contacted the tribe in order to have them help find Penicillin's Mold, which they agreed to look for, as if any group could find it, or have records of a substance like that, they would. This would eventually no longer be required as the Penicillin's Mold and actual Penicillin would be discovered from someone else later that day.[3]

4 White Gnolls that go by the alias of Coinpurse (Alrric), Spellcaster (Casklal), Wanderer (Wer) and Shadows met and discussed how to kidnap Mrsha for her own protection. Other tribes, including the Plain’s Eye Tribe, sent a hunting group after her for being a White Gnoll/Doombringer.[8]

_

Over a year or so ago, the Gnoll Tribes had each sent a number of their representatives to honor the Pact of Rhir. Merish of the Plain’s Eye Tribe was appointed as their Chief Warrior by the others to follow his orders.

Under the orders of Bastion-General Quiteil, the Gnoll Tribes and Izrilian Drake division would reluctantly join together,[9] and while there was some difficulty in working together, especially during the Serpent-Titan attack on 5th Wall and their joint-command drills, thanks to Cirille finally understanding how difficult it was for Merish to manage all the different tribes together, she mixed each other commands until they were all able to work effectively together. Merish, his tribe and some of the other tribes would also later benefit from Cirille's [Synergy: Gnoll-Drake Command], which gave them Oldblood Elemental Breath Attacks.[4]

During the second Demon attack on 5th Wall by the Deathless Silvenia, the Gnoll Tribes and all the other irregular divisions, would fight all together against the Phantoms Summoned Demons and the real ones, until Lord Hayvon came and forced the Demons to retreat. While Merish survived the battle, the Plain’s Eye Tribe, like the others, sustained heavy casualties.

It is presumed that thanks to Lord Hayvon's [The Pride of the Fallen] Skill, that just like the other fallen, the Ghosts of the deceased tribe members went back to the Plain’s Eye Tribe home to say their goodbyes.[10]

At the time when all the Gnoll Tribes were converging for the Meeting of Tribes, Chieftains Eska and Orelighn discussed about some of the other Tribes, they mentioned that due to the Silverfang Tribe still waiting for the thousands members they sent to Liscor, they have yet to declare they formally arrived—which upset the Plain’s Eye Tribe who wanted to settle them.

A day later, a Shaman from the Plain’s Eye Tribe showed their Tribe Chieftain a scrying orb recording of the Players of Celum singing performance in an inn, in which a little Gnoll with white fur is present. Upon confirming this, the Tribe Chieftain ordered to send a group to kill the Doombringer.

At the same time, First Warrior Merish, followed by Viri, returned to his tribe and home.[11]

Volume 8[]

At the Meeting of the Tribes, Plain's Eye was forming a map of all the tribes, and tribes were presenting themselves to them for that reason. It was a sign of how powerful they had become.[1] When Ferkr arrived, members of Plain's Eye intercepted her and took her away.[12] They forced a false confession from her that she was lying about being a [Mage], and prevented her from speaking the truth with an enchantment.[13]

Meanwhile, the Doomslayers had arrived at Liscor to kill Mrsha. Wer was already there and warned the Inn's occupants about them.[14] They tried destroying the Inn with a rain of arrows, but the building was too tough and they only managed to put holes in the third floor. In the following confrontation involving Belavierr, the Inn's defenders, summoned monsters, and Hectval's army, the Doomslayers all perished.[15]

_

Following that event, Merish would be put in charge of a new squad of Doomslayers, made up of fellow veterans of Rhir, and sent out to hunt the Doombringers.[16] Yelroan would figure out Mrsha and Wer's next location so they could catch them.[17] The Doomslayers would catch them, but Mrsha would be rescued by Sellme and the Thief of Clouds.[13]

Iraz met with Xherw and told him about the Humans from Earth before it was brought up at the Meeting of Chieftains.[17]At the meeting, when the Silverfang Tribe brought the spellbook as their great gift, Plain's Eye's leaders denied that Gnolls could be [Mages]. When Ferkr presented herself and the magicore crystal was unearthed and destoryed, Xherw and Ulcreziek seemed displeased.[13]

Mrsha arrived at the Meeting of the Tribes, and only just avoided being spotted by Xherw and Ulcreziek.[18]

_

Suspecting that there was a Doombringer at the Meeting of the Tribes, Xherw talked Yelroan with finding them, and to investigate Qwera specifically. Yelroan would find two, but start to question if the tales about them are true, and did not inform anyone of what he discovered.[19]Meanwhile, the Doomslayers fell for Niers' trap and were attacked by the Fellowship of the Inn, the Lomost Tribe, and the Ghostly Hand Goblin tribe. Some escaped but they had to return to the tribe empty-handed.[20]

Drake armies from the Walled Cities advanced on the Meeting of the Tribes, and the Gnolls had to defend. Xherw gave Tkrn an Eyeshield to help protect important Gnolls. Plain's Eye warriors and the returned Merish ambushed Nokha and her Raskghars, killing all except her. She was spared when she revealed that Mrsha was at the Meeting of the Tribes.[21]

The Plain's Eye Tribe went to the west and handily won. Back at the camps, Doomslayers attempted to assassinate Mrsha in the Gaarh Marsh camp, but were intercepted by Magnolia's maids, Ferris, and were finally killed by Khoteizetrough who declared Mrsha to be a Doombearer.[22]

What followed was a schism between the tribes. Silverfang and their allies advocated that white gnolls shouldn't be hunted anymore while Plain's Eye advocated for killing them. They were joined by Az'muzarre and Steelfur, and Xherw convinced many undecided tribes thanks to his luck. Plain's Eye's numerous [Shamans] went around reciting Doombringer stories to convince others. Satar would reveal the true tale of the Beast of Albez during the debate.

As Torishi and Xherw debated, he let Nokha go to kill Mrell and Prha to "prove" that Doombringers brought Doom, but she was stopped by the Halfseekers and brought before the tribes. Yelroan and Merish also confronted him with proof of preferential treatment from the Drakes towards the tribe and yearly payments from Fissival. As Xherw tried to use his luck to turn the situation around and kill the Doombearers (now three with the arrival of Wer), Belavierr arrived and revealed the Daemon of Luck. Violence followed immediately after.[7]

The tribes fought each other. On the first day of fighting, Plain's Eye warriors killed a thousand Wild Wastes warriors led by Dorekh. On the second day, their [Shamans] unleashed a [Grand Ritual] to destroy the opposing tribes with a great geyser of molten rock. It was stopped by the sacrifice of Khoteizetrough. Plain's Eye pushed through to try to kill Mrsha but were driven back. Xherw then made a deal with Belavierr to have her fight for Plain's Eye in exchanged for a third of their luck.[23]

Ulcreziek is confronted by the Fellowship, and was initially winning until Apista stung him in his normal eye with an antimagic stinger.[24]He later stops the Illuminary as it was running over lesser Plain's Eye [Shamans].

Xherw and his bodyguards push in, targeting the Silverfang tribe, blaming them as the root of everything going wrong, and Satar in particular for her revelations. As he tries to kill her, Lyonette and Flos attack the Daemon. He attempts to fight his way back to it, but Jecaina renders her judgement before he can reach it and the Doombearer souls are freed, taking away the luck from Xherw and giving it the Gnolls and their allies. Xherw continues fighting as he's surrounded until he is finally killed by Merish.

Ulcreziek calls for Belavierr to make a bargain to save the remainder of his tribe. He gives her the Plain's Eye and is killed by Manus soldiers shortly after. Belavierr fulfils the deal by turning the fur of the Plain's Eye tribe members white.[5]

Volume 9[]

Many members of the tribe have left and took a lot of the tribe's coin with them. The warriors of Plain's Eyes were divided up, into other tribes or their original subtribes. The remnants of the tribe were kept at the outskirts of the meeting of the Tribes. As they had no control over their powers, they caused misfortune in the area. Every member was making trade goods to raise money in preparation for winter. Merish planned to lead the tribe westward and build a settlement to keep them from being attacked or starving.[25]

Parts of the tribe weren't at the Meeting of the Tribes, and they sought revenge or refused to change their ways. Gamur, Grasine and others hunted them down.[26]

Strength[]

The Plain's Eye Tribe is one of the largest Gnoll tribes in Izril. As the tribe is specialized in shamanism, they have [Shamanic Warriors] which are like magical warriors similar to [Spellblade] only different, as they are suited to heavy fighting, and are not so fragile, as they can enchant their fur to becomes as hard as armor, and their blades capably of cutting steel.[9]

They often use Eye Totems that blind their foes.[23]
