Royalty in Innworld consists of several powerful classes.
Overview
- This article deals with royalty, not the "lower" nobility - for higher classes like [Queens] see Royalty.
[Monarch] is apparently the moniker for a whole group of classes; a more broad term is [Ruler] which would also include non-royal forms of rulership. The classes can have mostly unique specializations (see the listed persons for each continent, above).
The more generalized overview is like this: A [Queen] or [King] is a souvereign ruler of their respective country/nation. Their children become [Princes] or [Princesses] and thus may inherit the ruler class upon the death of their parent(s). Until then, they are successors. Prince-dom may also be acquired via adoption into the royal family, or lost when they are disowned/disinherited.
As of yet, it is not clear whether [Emperors] or [Empresses] follow the same rules: while seemingly more grandiose, three of the two known holders of [Emperor] class are conquerors/usurpers. As their power appears to be similar to that of [Kings] and [Queens], they are listed below just like them.
Moreover, there's also the class [Tyrant].[1]
[Royalty] deemed legitimate by the System governing classes and levels, has some sway over the classes of other people and may appoint special classes to worthy individuals that are better than the base class. Classes like [Steward] or [Royal Guardian] may be the result. This is, like nobilitation, an act of will of the legitimate [Royal] themselves, and usually done only sparingly and with great delibaration.
Ranking
Royalty usually makes up the government in a Kingdom. Continents where no tradition of Kingdoms has so far been shown in the story are Izril (ruled mostly by Human and Drake nobility, with Laken of the Unseen Empire as the only newly emerged irregularity) and Baleros (ruled by mercenary companies).
Terandria
- (see: Nobility#Terandrian System for details on the lineage system and "lower" noble ranks)
In Terandria, it is possible that a [King] is overthrown by a [Duke] (for example) who then inherits their rule by rule of conquest/rebellion. That is apparently a human concept that other races may not share, especially the Drakes and Minotaurs, who are respectively concerned with a lawful or honorful approach to government.[2]
So far, the following monarchies and their royalty have appeared in the story:
- [King] of House Marquin (of Calanfer)
- [Worldly Princess] Lyonette du Marquin, and sixth in line of inheritance
- [King] (of Taimaguros)
- Griffin [Queen] Novakya (of Kaliv)
- Griffin Prince (disinherited)
- Griffin Princess, his sister
- Pheislant, Gaiil-Drome, Ailendamus and Desonis are other notable Kingdoms; their rulers didn't appear so far.
Chandrar
Royalty in Chandrar is far more disparate than in Terandria. So far, the following [Monarchs] have appeared:
- [Bandit Queen] Revine Zecrew (of Savere)
- [Emperor] of Sands (of the Empire of Sands)
- [Empress of Beasts] Nsiia (of Tiqr)
- [High King] Perric (of Medain)
- [King of Challenges] Raelt Leysars (of Jecrass)
- [Dueling Princess] Jecaina Leysars, his daughter
- [King] of Destruction Flos Reimarch (of Reim)
- [Quarass] (of Germina)
- [Queen]] Yisame (of Nerrhavia)
- [Undying King] Fetohep (of Khelt)
Rhir
The Blighted Kingdom is one of two rather special kingdoms on Rhir. Since Othius IV, the Blighted King, is assisted by powerful temporal magic to remain in power, little is known about the technicalities of his rule. He is married to the Blighted Queen (a former adventurer, who appears to be a consort-[Queen] without the right of inheritance) and currently has two young daughters, crown [Princess] Isodore and her sister Erille.
On the other hand, the Demon King rules over the Demon Kingdom, and even less is known about him. Demons are not officially recognized as a foreign power all over Innworld.
Originating from Rhir are also the Antinium, who are ruled by their Queens (recently exiled into Izril). So far, the following Queens of the Antinium are known:
- Armored Queen
- Bessachidia (Deceased)
- [Supreme Matriarch] First Grand Queen (Deceased)
- Flying Queen
- Free Queen
- Grand Queen
- Silent Queen
- Twisted Queen
Abilities and Skills
According to royal knowledge, there is a substantial difference in the power level between "mere" nobles and actual royals: [Princesses] or [Princes] get more powerful levels than mere [Lords], and a level 30 [King] would equal a level 60 [Major] (which is not even a noble class).[3]
