S03 – Wistram Days (Pt.3) is the third part of the side story of Wistram Days.

tl;dr[]

Pisces and Ceria acquire a good spell book with the help of Cognita. They are told about Zelkyr Amerwing.

Synopsis[]

Pisces and Ceria stealthily make their way through the dark halls of Wistram on their way to one of the restricted libraries of Wistram. When they arrive they follow the footprints of the previous group towards a bookshelf that disappears when a pair of books are ordered differently. They enter the revealed secret tunnel into an abandoned bedroom and use detect magic to find the book they're looking for, but Cognita suddenly enters the room greeting the pair.

She tells Pisces that she has just received his note and he asks her to help them retrieve the warded spellbook. Cognita retrieves the spellbook and agrees to give it to Pisces as long as he returns the one he was issued. When they ask to keep the acquisition of the book a secret Cognita tells them that she is bound to tell the truth but will only reveal what happened if she is asked directly.

Back in their rooms Pisces agrees to share the book with Ceria and they peruse the various spells contained. The next morning Ceria is tired during class and Rievan notices Pisces is missing his spellbook, but Pisces manages to evade trouble by reciting his notes of the previous lesson.

At lunch the two sit with Calvaron and Beatrice and talk about how some adventurer's that come to Wistram quit, and then about the presence of Dullahan's, Half-Elves and the lack of Gnolls at Wistram. Pisces gives Calvaron a secret in exchange for telling them about general history of the academy.

Calvaron explains that back during the time of Archmage Zelkyr, an actual [Archmage] and creator of Cognita, there weren't any factions but individual mages with their own influence. Zelkyr having undisputed control of Wistram explored the higher floors and banned anyone but himself and those he trusted from venturing there - enforced by Cognita and hid golems. One day Cognita descended from the upper floors and announced Zelkyr's death, but that the higher floors were still off limits. Cognita and some of Zelkyr's other golems guard the door to the higher floors, and although there have been countless challenges, no-one has challenged the Golems and survived.

Calvaron continues to explain that Wistram's factions emerged because there was no single mage powerful enough to control everyone, none of the Archmages have the class and the factions are collections of mages with similar ideals. Illphres for example is an isolationist whereas Rievan is a Libertarian. Calvaron and Beatrice's previous teacher, Tshya, had died and his teaching roles were split amongst mages of other factions leading to Rievan and Illphres being teachers.

After dinner Pisces and Ceria decide to spend much of their remaining 3 weeks before the exam focusing on spells from the book: [Flash Step] and [Stone Fist].
