S03 – Wistram Days (Pt.6) is the sixth part of the side story of Wistram Days.

tl;dr[]

Ceria hasn't spoken to Pisces in a year, who learned from Cognita in the meantime. Illphres confides in Ceria that she is about to take Zelkyr's test.

Synopsis[]

It is said that Wistram is listed as one of the most powerful factions in the world, their power primarily stemming from the education of their mages - broadly six years.

The teacher for basic combat magic angrily stalks through the halls as the new students call her professor. Ceria is again chided by Calvaron with her new nickname, which she's gained from being straddled with Illphres' responsibilites being pushed onto her. A year has passed since the pirate hunting expedition and Montressa has grown, as adolescent humans do, and Beatrice and Calvaron are in their sixth year.

Montressa still sees Pisces once or twice a week for lessons, but Ceria hasn't been meeting him. She encourages Ceria to visit him but the entire academy was aware of his status as a Necromancer. Ceria requests Callvaron to get his hands on two of the highest-grade ice-resistant rings that he can find but she doesn't elaborate on their use.

Ceria meets up with her master and head towards one of the training rooms. Illphres has Ceria attack her and evaluates her spellcasting before giving out advice. Ceria inquires about the rings and Illphres agrees to tell her, but later. After practice Ceria heads down to Pisces' room, but hesitates and walks away.

A month later Pisces is in a debate duel over necromancy and he loses. Ceria manages to strike up a conversation with him afterwards but she declines his invite to join his sessions with Mons saying that they're no longer friends. But they're not enemies.

Four days later Ceria meets Illphres with Jurix and Qum, Dullahans, Bastam the Drake Isolationist and Ophelia a stitch-woman Centrist; all powerful mages. Jurix, another Isolationist, begins to explain what the rings are needed for: the five of them are planning on challenging Cognita and open the way to the floors above.

Ceria finds herself outside Pisces' room as she thinks about her master's group challenging the Golems. She finds him working with mouse bones and gets him to tell her everything so she can understand why he chose Necromancy.

Illphres takes Ceria to see their enemy, the five golems guarding the door to the floors above, Ceria only sees three: one made of magma, one of metal and a giant armored golem. She later notices the "shadow/flesh" golem and throws up. Illphres tells Ceria that the other mages are scared of dying, but that the five of them are willing to risk their lives for this.

During a practice session Illphres uses her [Fortress of the Ice Queen] to defend against the other four mages, making her the cornerstone of their plan. She mentions that Amerys won't join them as she's waiting for Flos.

Trying to distract herself from the upcoming fight Ceria spends more time with Pisces but one day discovers the clay Golem that he's been working on. Pisces explains that he was taught by Cognita and Ceria's anger overtakes her and breaks the golem. They have an argument where Pisces admits that nobody will teach him even if he swore off necromancy and that he can no longer afford to stay at Wistram.

Illphres declines Ceria's request to take on Pisces as a student because in a month's time it won't matter once they succeed and change Wistram with the end of factions and the beginning of every mage competing to climb the higher floors.
