Appearance[]

Swey has callused hands from regular climbing and is able to open an oyster without tools.[2] mustache.[3]

Personality[]

Background[]

Swey lives on a plateau that is only accessibly via climbing or rope elevators located in one spot.[4] He is married and has multiple daughters and step-sons.[1] Sammial Veltras claims Swey also has a pet monkey.[5]

His region of Veltras lands is called Kabral and produces [Vicegrip Warriors] that do not lose their grip on weapons.[1]

An old story about Swey claims he once lost a close friend during a climbing accident in the rain because he was unable to maintain his grip. Buscrei believes this has led Swey to have difficulty abandoning others.[6]

Chronology[]

Volume 8[]

Swey is the Lord that Ryoka Griffin visits after delivering Tyrion Veltras' message to the Oswen family and Lady Buscrei. While she is there, Swey is given the opportunity to test out the glider. He is in favor of Tyrion courting Ryoka, mostly because he might get a glider.[4]

After Tyrion publicly proposes courting Ryoka, Swey arrives at the Lord Pellmia Quellae's estate to join the faction of Lords/Ladies conspiring to make the relationship happen.[3] While there, Swey goes out drinking at a tavern with Buscrei, Desinee, and Charlay.[2]

He fights disguised knights from Ailendamus when they appear and attack Pellmia's estate. As a result of Ryoka and Sammial Veltras being kidnapped by the forces of Ailendamus, he agrees to help Tyrion retrieve his son and Ryoka. While sailing onboard the Pride of the Wellfar, Swey becomes seasick.[1]

As an infantry specialist, Swey leads the infantry assault against Ailendamus' grounded Navy when Tyrion's forces disembark onto Calanfer's shores.[6] Following the defeat of the Navy, Veltras forces advance further into Calanfer. In one conflict with Ailendamus' forces, Swey orchestrates and avalanche.[6]

When Tyrion and Ryoka meet during the war against Ailendamus, Swey is one of the bystanders watching their discussion.[7]

At the end of the third day of battle with General Dionamella, Swey creates an opening by choking one of her half-elf [Blademaster] bodyguards. His hand was severed in the encounter but he manages to take down the bodyguard with his skill [I Will Never Let You Go][8]

  • (To Ryoka) “Miss Griffin. We’re all out picking cherries and we just heard Tyrion and company would be coming by for a visit. Why don’t you join us in harvesting, then we can all settle in. We could even make a game of it!”
  • (To Tyrion) On fighting Drakes at the Bloodfields - “No offense to the main family and the Five Families and whatnot, Tyrion. I went once. Never saw the point. Lots of angry Drakes and those Gnoll people. I’d be as happy to let them stay over there. If they come north, we can rally up.”
  • (To Tyrion) “…You were always like—like a Golem. ‘The good of the realm.’ ‘The duties of a [Lord].’ I hated that. Remember when we got into a fistfight? Well…I like you more, now. Selfish. It’s not selfish, man, it’s family!”
  • (To Tyrion) “That’s a poor gift, Tyrion. Buscrei is asking what you can do for Ryoka.”
