Yesel has red hair, which her daughter Chimmy inherited from her.
She had been friends with Durene's mother, and so she had been one of the villagers closer to Durene than others. Even so, when the village raised the half-troll girl, Durene was not treated like Yesels own children, of whom she had two daughters and two sons. Even much later, Yesel hadn't outright apologized for that treatment like her husband had done.
She owns three books.
She first met Laken when he first visited the village together with Durene after a week had passed, handing them a basket full of food. Later, she took turns with her husband when they tried to persuade Laken to move from Durene's cottage to their own farm.
In the avalanche, one of her sons died.
Yesel gifted a grey-blue knitted scarf to Ryoka Griffin, for her bringing out supplies to the snowed-in village. That scarf was in turn ruined by the spirits of the winter solstice. When the two women met later again, Yesel was still too effusive with her praise for Ryoka's taste.
